ODM leader Raila Odinga suffered a major blow after two chief campaigners opted out for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.
Odinga is battling to reclaim Nyamira County after IEBC records showed that he lost marginally to Uhuru on August, with the latter scoring 52 percent.
Ex – West Mugirango MP James Gesami and senatorial loser Nyambega Mose were both received by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ahead of Uhuru’s tour on Thursday.
Before his defection, Gesami who served in parliament for two terms under ODM party was the party’s chairman Nyamira branch, a position he resigned after opting to run for governorship as an independent.
But in a quick response, former Kitutu Masaba MP who also serves as the party’s treasurer dismissed the move as insignificant and uncalled for.
“There are free to move to Jubilee and as ODM, we are confident of landslide victory in October,” he told reporters.
In his statement, Gesami accused Odinga of ‘not looking for him’ after the ODM governorship nominations where he lost to incumbent John Nyagarama.
Lawyer Mose, a member of Wiper party, lost to Okong’o Mogeni of ODM in the senatorial race.
