Kisii Governor James Ongwae's re-election bid suffered a major blow on Tuesday after key allies ditched his Orange Party to Manson Nyamweya led KNC.
Led by Samuel Mogusu, formally ODM Secretary General in Kisii and Caren Magara (Treasurer), the officials claimed ODM has preferred candidates in the region.
Addressing the media after being received by Nyamweya, who is also the South Mugiarngo MP, the defectors vowed to make the party popular in the region that is currently dominated by the Orange party.
"Having tirelessly worked to popularise ODM in the region, I know the terrain very well and will have no problem identifying with the electorate on the ground. I will work round the clock to make KNC the party to beat in the region," Mogusu said.
Nyamweya who defected ODM amid fears of being rigged out in favour of the incumbent exuded confidence that he will unseat Ongwae come August poll.
Nyamweya further said that his party is determined to change the face of politics in the region.
