President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has suffered a major blow in the recent political defections with Taveta MP Naomi Shabaan being the latest to show intentions of quitting.
Shabaan, who deputizes Aden Duale in the National Assembly as Majority Leader, has been an asset to Jubilee party in Coast, owing to her long experience in politics.
A secret letter posted by prominent Nairobi lawyer Ahmednassir Abdillahi dated April 8, 2017, confirms Shabaan’s intention to ditch a party that she has rallied for in recent months.
“Due to unavoidable circumstances, I wish to resign from Jubilee party. I will no longer be vying for Taveta constituency seat under Jubilee party umbrella,” reads part of the letter.
The veteran politician further says: “I wish to thank all that I have worked with this far. I wish the Jubilee party all the best in the coming elections.”
The letter is copied to Jubilee secretary General Raphael Tuju, Executive Director Winnie Guchu, Registrar of Political Parties and IEBC.
Although she details about the response of Jubilee party remains scanty, Shabaan did not however reveal her next move.
Recently, Taita Taveta Women representative Joyce Lay and Senator Dan Mwazo ditched ODM party for Jubilee.
