The Media Council of Kenya CEO Haron Mwangi has resigned.
The polished media professional reportedly tendered his resignation on April 3, observing that he was contented with his work at the council, adding that he is moving on to pursue other interests.
“It was my intention to serve two terms of three years each ... but I feel it is time to pass over the baton and move on to pursue other interests,” he said.
In a statement on Thursday, the Council's Chair Charles Kerich confirmed the resignation, thanking Mwangi's selfless service and contribution to the council through his tenure.
"Under Dr Mwangi’s leadership, the council has successfully navigated from a self-regulatory body to a legally recognised co-regulatory body and appreciate his continued support as the Council conducts a thoughtful and comprehensive search for a new CEO," Kerich said.
"An advert calling for applications will be published on Tuesday April 12th 2017 in MyGov weekly publication," he added.
Mwangi is expected to serve the council at his current position until a successor is appointed.
