Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua's Maendeleo Chap Chap party (MCCP) has welcomed president Uhuru Kenyatta's adviser, following defection.
Kilemi Mwiria decamped Uhuru's Jubilee Party, saying MCCP was the party of diversity, and mission he required.
The Meru gubernatorial aspirant cited overcrowding in Jubilee, hence his defection.
He expressed optimism to unseat incumbent PNU's governor Peter Munya through MCCP.
"I am confident that I will be the Meru governor after the August elections. This is the party everyone requires because it addresses the people's needs,'' he said during his official welcoming to the party.
Speaking when he received him, Mutua indicated MCCP would field candidates for all positions across the country except for the presidency.
Mwiria will battle out with Munya, Jubilee's Kiraitu Murungi (Meru senator), among other aspirants.
