President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Kisii campaign team has been dealt with a huge blow after veteran politician endorsed Governor James Ongwae of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Prof. Sam Ongeri, a former Minister in President Kibaki’s government has been in logger heads with Uhuru Kenyatta’s Kisii campaign team, accusing some of its members of political witch hunt.
On Friday, Ongeri accused Jubilee campaign team of wrongly targeting Ongwae and urged area residents to reelect Ongwae based on his development records.
“There are some people trying to make Ongwae’s work difficult and we know them. They do not deserve our ear and time has come for you to know they mean nothing to us,” he said.
“They are fighting Ongwae simply because he is smart and focused. I will support him no matter what happens,” he added.
Uhuru’s Kisii campaign team involves Charles Nyachae and Deputy Governor Joash Maangi among other several MPs.
Though the United Nations Habitat ambassador has not formerly joined ODM, his contributions towards ODM Nyacheki by election candidate Naphtali Onkoba speak volumes.
Ongwae is expected to run for senatorial seat and would likely face challenge from Charles Nyachae who has declared his interest.
The veteran politician has been a key pillar to Jubilee government till his fallout with a number of Uhuru’s campaign team officials.
