President Uhuru Kenyatta has yet again received a severe political blow in Kisii land after the much hyped Gusii unity team showed signs of disintegration.
The President is keen to win the vote rich region which is perceived to be an opposition stronghold and has toured the region in more than seven occasions.
On Sunday, Kisii Deputy Governor, a key points man for Jubilee administration Joash Maangi, reversed his initial decision to defend his seat opting to challenge governor James Ongwae.
"I want to build my political career and that can only happen if I go for gubernatorial seat. It is time my colleagues back me to better this region," He told his supporters at Gianchere.
Under the Obomo caucus, Maangi was to deputise senator Chris Obure in Governorship while former Constitution Implementation Commission Chairperson Charles Nyachae was to go for senatorial seat.
The new developments could jeorpadise Jubilee campaigns in the region given that Maangi is the Secretary while Nyachae is the chairperson of Jubilee campaigns in Gusii.
On Sunday, Nyachae who shared the same platform with Maangi, insisted that Jubilee had no option other than supporting Obure's gubernatorial bid.
