Independence party KANU may after all support presidential candidate from opposition outfit despite Baringo senator Gideon Moi intimating that the party would field a presidential candidate.
Moi, a close friend of President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been cold towards the ruling party with his differences with Deputy President William Ruto often translating to ugly public exchanges.
And on Wednesday, party's Secretary General Nick Salat said the party will be represented in a planned opposition rally in Bomet town on Saturday.
"KANU is going to attend the opposition rally in Bomet. We share same agenda for Kenyans and it si a war that we shall fight together," he said..
"We cannot work with corrupt regimes that is keen to suppress freedom of expression, association and even political party rights," he added.
Recently, President Kenyatta's mother Mama Ng'ina Kenyatta visited former President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home even though details of their meeting was not immediately revealed.
Rutto and Moi are reportedly embroiled in a tussle for control of vote rich Rift Valley region.
