The Jubilee Party, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been dealt a blow after over 20 MCAs moved to Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party.
The 25 MCAs were received by MCC leader and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Thursday.
"I have also received to @MCC_Party 25 MCA aspirants from Tharaka Nithi County," reads a Twitter post by @MachakosGPS – the official account of Machakos Governor Press Service.
Tharaka Nithi Speaker John Mbaabu, who is vying for Chuka Igambang'ombe MP, was among those who ditched Jubilee.
Tharaka Nithi Trade executive Tabitha Mbungu, also joined Governor Mutua’s camp and will be vying for Women Representative seat.
Francis Matanka, who will contest against Senator Kithure Kindiki of the Jubilee Party also defected from Jubilee to Maendeleo Chap Chap.
“I am assured of a free and fair nominations. Here I have a level playing ground. I will do all I can to popularize and strengthen the party both in Tharaka Nithi and nationally," Matanka said on Thursday.
Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti recently joined the party from Jubilee.
Speaking when he received the defectors, Governor Mutua said, "The continued trooping in of members into Maendeleo Chap Chap is testament to the huge faith Kenyans have in the party."
