The board, through its chairman, Samuel Githaiga said the facility is unable to fully deliver services to patients because of the shortage of staff.

Speaking to the press Gitahiga said the hospital is facing a shortage of nurses, doctors and other specialists, and called on the county government to hasten  the process of recruiting new staff to address the issue.

“The truth is we have a shortage of staff at the PGH and this is greatly hampering service delivery, and the person suffering is the common Kenyan seeking services at the facility,” said Githaiga.

“We are informed the county government is in the process of recruiting new nurses and we would call on them to fasten the process so that this shortage can be addressed once and for all,” he said.

Last week, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua affirmed his government’s commitment to hire more nurses for the biggest health facility in the county, saying that the process of recruiting more nurses is ongoing.
