Nairobi school, Lenana school and Moi Girls are among the traditional boarding institutions that are set to open day wings.

The move aims at boosting the capacity and delink admission to bed space under free secondary education plan expected to increase Form One enrollment up yo 1 million students.

During the release of KCPE results, Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i announced that all the 993,718 candidates who sat for this year's examination are expected to join Form One.This marks a 25 percent rise over the 790,680 students admitted to secondary schools last year.

According to the education ministry, the opening of the day wings in boarding schools would start in Nairobi before being introduced in other parts of the country.

About Sh25 billion has been allocated for free secondary education plans for the six months to June following concerns of inadequate teachers, classrooms and materials that do not match the numbers.

However, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang on Thursday failed to disclose finer details of implementing the programme.
