The Kisii County director of education, Richard Chepkwai, has challenged schools with a single stream to ensure they have three or four before their term expires.
He said this would help more students enroll in school due to the free primary education. He added that schools with over two streams should go for one or two to strengthen enrolment of form ones who want to join.
Chepkwai who was speaking on Wednesday in Masaba Sub-county at Masimba, urged the management of schools to give curriculum delivery priority during their meetings saying it was one of their key responsibilities.
''As one way of increasing the enrollment of students who wants to join secondary school, we need to increase the number of streams so that we can accommodate these students,'' said Chepkwai.
The TSC county director, Martin Bunde, stressed that the board of managers will sign performance contracts through principals who were secretaries with the county education authorities to improve service delivery. He announced a freeze on registration of new public schools in the region and clarified that a few were sanctioned and were not affected by the directive.
The board of managers, whose inauguration exercise was the first in the county after the expiry of the former Boards of Governors six months ago, will be followed by elections of the executive and other committees.
