Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has been named the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the year.

Collymore was feted on Tuesday at the inaugural East Africa Com Awards.

The CEO who is away on a medical leave was feted in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of telecoms and ICT.

Safaricom scooped two more awards with their innovations in customer service, health and agriculture being celebrated.

Digifarm was awarded the most innovative service while Jitambulishe scooped the Delivering Excellence in Customer Experience Award.

Safaricom Director of Corporate Affairs Steve Chege stated: "We are delighted by the recognition of the innovations that we have brought to the market."This is a testament to the transformation that technology is bringing to people's lives."

Speaking early this month Collymore said that he will be back in Nairobi soon after his treatment.

He made the revelation when he gave the performance of the company 

"As you can see I am looking pretty robust. I am heading to the last phase of treatment and expect to be back to Nairobi as soon as the doctors feel that my immune system insufficiently robust to withstand the infection risks that are usually associated with air travel. In the meantime, thank you all for the messages of good. I look forward to being back in action in Nairobi," he said.
