Kesses bodaboda Sacco chairman Oscar Shikanga Arashe has revealed the major cause of accidents among the bodaboda fraternity in Uasin Gishu.
He said most of them don’t follow traffic rules thus causing accidents a day in day out.
“It’s sad that in the last one month we have lost 3 bodaboda operators through reckless driving and not following the traffic rules while others have not gone through driving school yet they carry passengers,” he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
“I urge bodaboda operators to be careful when riding your motorbikes life is much expensive and you should put in mind that you are carrying people and not cabbages. They should also refrain from taking alcohol when they are conducting their business since it’s the major cause of accidents,” he added.
He, however, urged them to ensure they always wear helmets, reflector jackets and that they should always carry one passenger for their own security.
“This will really help to reduce the number of accidents caused by bodaboda by over 50%,” noted Shikanga.
He advised them to join Sacco’s for them to be empowered financially and get loans at a low interest compared to other financial institutions.
