Police in Kisumu County are probing an incident in which a man allegedly killed his grandmother following a land dispute in Maraba, Agoro East Sub-Location on Monday.

The suspect, Willis Oguma, hit the deceased, Syprose Oywa, 63, using a blunt object before she died. Confirming the incident, Nyakach Sub-County Deputy OCPD Silas Andiema said that the matter is being probed.

“The matter has been reported and we have already launched investigations into the matter which has shocked the village,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The nice of the deceased, Perez Anyango, who witnessed the incident, claimed that Oguma was in the company of his dad and brother when he committed the heinous act.

She said that the deceased was attacked when she attempted to protect her last-born son, David Ochieng who is said to have engaged in war of words with one of them.

She also said that the trio caused a commotion when they broke the door glass while daring Ochieng to face them. One of the attackers grabbed the woman’s collar when Ochieng refused to open the door before hitting her with the object.

Mr Oguma was reportedly out to revenge on Mr Ochieng (his cousin) after he had a quarrel with his (Oguma’s) father on Saturday following the disagreement on the fixation of a fence.  The father was angered to the point that he slashed Ochieng’s knee using a panga but he managed to overpower him before taking the weapon. The deceased body was later transferred to Nyakach Sub-County Hospital.
