James Kariuki, the organising secretary of Nakuru Motorcycle Taxi Operators Association, a branch of the larger national organisation, told members of the association that they risk losing business opportunities if they avoid to pay tax.

While welcoming the revised rates that place the tax at Sh100 from Sh200 per day, Kariuki said the new rates would improve incomes for boda boda operators.

“We are happy that the county government has considered our requests to reduce tax rates. This is good for our members but they should not employ the hide and seek tactics anymore because it will affect their business operations,” said Kariuki.

He observed that operators who evade tax and get nabbed lose thousands of shillings every month and advised members of the organisation to practice a culture of paying tax in advance to avoid any conflicts with county government officials.
