Kisumu residential spokesperson Audi Ogada, speaking on Monday at Kisumu social hall to a group of boda boda operators, urged them to ensure their bicycles were in proper conditions with proper breaks and lightings, and avoid working under the influence of alcohol as it posed a threat to both the riders and the customers.

Audi noted that there were reported cases of negligence by most riders, with a good number operating under the influence of alcohol or even operating without headlights at night.

The spokesperson emphasized on strict penalties on boda boda operators found working under the influence of alcohol, as it was unethical for them to work under such work patterns, which subjected their lives to accidents.

“We need to improve our work patterns to promote lives by not risking carrying passengers at night without lightings and also not to work under influence of alcohol,” noted Audi.

Boda boda operator welfare chairperson Wickliffe Okinyi also echoed similar sentiments, asking his fellow operators to improve their working conditions and avoid tarnishing their names.
