Boda boda operators in Kisi County have been urged to join saving Sacco’s, so that they can improve their livelihoods by expanding their business and saving more.
Addressing boda boda operators in Kisii town during the launch of the Kisii Town Motorcycle (Bodaboda) Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization, Kisii County Governor James Ongwae said the county is ready to fund Sacco’s so that they can expand the business.
“Forming Sacco’s is a good move and am sure we will be having more than one Sacco, which will represent you and help you acquire loans from the county youth fund, and also from other banks that are willing to see the youth progress in their business,” said Ongwae.
The formation of the current Cooperative is in line with recommendations of the Motorcycle Taskforce that was formed early last year to address issues affecting the Boda boda sector in Kisi region.
“My desire is to see this sector reorganized into a safe, profitable and sustainable source of livelihood for our young people, a safe sector means we can find room for development and growth together am sure we will make the county shine” said Ongwae.
