Several months after the county leadership of Kisii barred boda boda operators from accessing the route in front of the county assembly and governor’s office citing traffic jam as the reason, the operators now want the ban to be lifted.

Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Sunday, they said the route is integral part of their business since many customers have been complaining of the alternative routes due to alleged long time taken to reach their destinations.

They asked the governor to call for a meeting to discuss the issue and also suggested that the county reversed the move and affected it on trailers and other transit vehicles.

“The route in front of the governor’s office should be reopened unconditionally. It is faster and reliable so we should be allowed to access it because most of our customers working in the CBD have been complaining of the alternative route we were given,” said Moses Ogamba.

“We want the governor to immediately withdraw the ban and call for further negotiations. I think they should instead ban trailers and other transit vehicles from accessing it,” added Alex Omache.

They also asked the county government to dismiss county askaris who have been allegedly beating and injuring operators who used the route at night hours when attending to emergencies.

“I must also remind the governor to sack askaris manning the route because they have beaten some of our colleagues at night when attending to emergencies. I don’t think there is jam created at night so to speak,” said Vincent Omayio.
