An official of the National Roads Safety Authority Nelson Waihemnya observed that the new regulations that were announced by the Minister for Transport Michael Kamau recently were a result of the spirited efforts aimed at reducing road accidents by conducting wide consultations among public transport and health stakeholders.

“These new directives must be observed and we will work around the clock to ensure that motorcycle riders across the country implement and observe them to the full end. We consulted widely before coming up with the rules which we think are balanced and aimed at reducing or mitigating accidents and other challenges related to motorcycle accidents on our roads,” said Waihenya.

He noted that by requiring a boda boda taxi operator to acquire a third party insurance, an extra helmet for passengers and avoiding over loading and careless parking, the government was working for the good of the operator and the public and warned that operators who fail to implement the new regulations will have their licenses cancelled apart from being prosecuted.
