Yatta deputy traffic commandant Edward Changach has urged boda boda operators in the sub county to go for refresher courses in order to get skills.
Speaking from his office on Friday, the deputy commandant raised an alarm over many accidents involving boda boda operators.
He said that four cases of fatal boda boda accidents have been reported at Tala trading centre in the last one month.
The commandant who blamed the rise on poor riding skills said that refresher courses will help curb the accidents.
“It is clear that some of the boda boda operators across Yatta sub county need refresher courses on riding to reduce cases of road accidents,” he said.
The deputy commandant said that most riders have little or no skills on riding motorbikes or any knowledge of traffic rules.
“We have noted that most riders have never attended any class on riding and they also don’t know road regulations,” said Mr Changach.
He said the sub county traffic department will partner with the county government to hold sensitisation forums where riders will be sensitised on road regulations.
The commandant asked youth willing to join the boda boda industry to get training from approved schools.
He said the sector has created many opportunities for the youth and that it will be better if they get appropriate skills before joining the trade.
