Members of the public in Nakuru using motorbike taxis for transportation have been urged to cooperate with the operators in observing traffic rules in order to achieve maximum roads safety.
The Organizing secretary of Nakuru Boda boda Riders Association Antony Ondari, while talking to this writer on Thursday in Nakuru town said that many bodaboda taxi passengers were not cooperating with the operators in observing traffic rules.
He noted that many passengers decline to wear helmets citing health hazards, while others adamantly demand for over speeding.
He added that other passengers also insist on being ferried on one motorbike with their friends or family members.
“Our members are sometimes blamed by traffic police for mistakes that are not of their creation. Since they are always in need of money they give in to the demands of their customers,” said Ondari, adding that there was a need for the traffic police and the National Roads Safety Authority to create awareness among members of the public on traffic rules requirements by motorcycle taxi operators in the country through the media.
He added that his association would soon organize a public awareness event on motorbike taxi traffic rules and regulations that will ensure members of the public help sensitize the dangers posed by passengers who fail to cooperate with motorcycle taxi operators.
