A boda boda rider was on Monday charged before a Nakuru court for violently robbing a woman off her phone using a pistol.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo, Julius Chepkwony denied stealing the Samsung J2 mobile phone and 2 tins of keg all valued at Sh122,000.

He faced an alternative count of handling stolen property.

Chepkwony allegedly committed the crime on November 25, 2016 at Tibis area in Njoro sub county.

He told the court that he bought the phone from a broker and did not know that it was stolen.

The court granted him sh500,000 surety bond. The case will be mentioned on January 23.
