The directive by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for bodaboda riders to form Sacco’s by June this year has been lauded by the Nakuru traffic commandant Joseph Mwangi.
Speaking at Nakuru town on Thursday, Mwangi said that the formation of bodaboda Saccos will help in streamlining the sector which he said is full of rogue operators.
Mwangi added that it will be easier for police officers to enforce discipline among the riders because they will be dealing with Sacco’s and not individuals.
He said the move will also help in getting rid of criminals out of the vibrant sector which has employed thousands of youths countrywide.
“When matatus formed Saccos, a lot of sanity was brought in the sector. I think the same will apply to the bodaboda sector which has become almost uncontrollable,” said Mwangi.
Nakuru bodaboda association secretary general Simon Ongoro said that formation of Saccos will help them in pooling their resources for the benefit of their members.
He added that joining Saccos is the only way through which they can clean the already dirty name of their sector by separating criminals from genuine operators.
On Thursday the National transport and safety authority gave all bodaboda operators in the country up to June this year to form and register Saccos as is the case in the matatu industry.
