The CEC in charge of transport and roads in Uasin Gishu County Gideon Birir has put on notice motorbikes, bodaboda and trolleys using footpaths meant for the public.
Speaking from his office on Friday, Birir said that those will be arrested and prosecuted that it is an offense for the motorbikes and trolleys to use the footpaths which are meant to be used by pedestrians alone.
“The footpaths were mainly constructed to be used by pedestrian to prevent them from being hit by vehicles and not to be used by bodaboda, trolleys and motorcycles which are giving pedestrians hard time while walking,” he said.
He said many accidents involving motorcycles and bodaboda hitting pedestrians at the footpaths have been reported and yet it their right to use the footpaths and county officers have been deployed to arrest them.
“I give stern warning to motorcycle, bodaboda and trolleys using the footpaths that they will be arrested and prosecuted for violating the rights of pedestrians,” he said.
He also put on notice businessmen and women who use footpaths to display their goods that they will be arrested and their licenses taken from them.
“The most common areas where businessmen and women display their goods include action, Huruma, Junction and Langas I urge them to refrain from the exercise or else we will be coming for their neck,” he added.
