A motorcyclist on Monday evening lost his life, after an accident that occurred in section 23, Matungulu, Machakos County, along the Kangundo-Nairobi road.
The middle-aged man died after his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a PSV mini-bus and a lorry, shortly after 4pm.
According to the Matungulu police OCPD, Joseph Chesire, the bodaboda operator was riding closely behind the minibus when the incident happened.
“The man was just right behind the minibus and was speeding when the driver of the bus reduced his speed unexpectedly and hit the motorcycle, after which he fell on the road and unfortunately behind him was a lorry approaching, which was unable to stop and ran over him. He unfortunately died on the spot,” said Chesire.
Speaking at the scene, the chairperson of bodaboda operators association in the area, Karanja Muiruri pleaded with the operators to reduce the speed they drive to avoid the rising cases of accidents that are costing many lives.
“I urge the bodaboda operators to be extra cautious, because the number of accidents in a week is increasing and the root cause is always over speeding and not being careful. The helmet, jacket and reflectors are equally critically important in preventing severe injuries in case of unavoidable accidents,” said Karanja.
