Nixon Andayi was on Monday convicted by Principal Magistrate Charles Obulutsa, after he was also found guilty of robbing the student her mobile phone, laptop, personal belongings, and Sh150, all valued at Sh43,150.

Andayi had pleaded not guilty to all the charges read to him, and was released on a bond of Sh600,000 with surety of the same amount.

The Court heard that on July 20, 2013, the victim was coming from University of Eldoret at around 10pm when she boarded a matatu to West Indies.

Arriving in Eldoret town, she boarded a boda boda, only for the operator to change the route and rode to an open field, where he forcefully undressed her, raped her and robbed her off.

The victim told the Court that the accused then fled the scene of the incident after committing the heinous act.

She was helped by a good samaritan who carried her on a motorbike and left her in town near North Rift bus stop.

She was later taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical examination.

The victim positively identified Andayi after he was arrested by police in Eldoret town.
