Bodaboda operators in Kibera have been asked to follow the set traffic rules or be arrested by the police.
This message comes from Geoffrey Bichobe, a bodaboda secretary at Laini Saba bodaboda stage who said that most riders do not comply with the simple traffic rules set for riders to adhere to.
“Some of the of the bodaboda riders do not follow the simple traffic rules such as wearing of motorbike helmets, reflectors, driving gloves and heavy clothes. To avoid unnecessary harassment and arrest from the police as riders we better follow the rules or get arrested,” he said.
He noted that some riders ride while drunk which is against the traffic rules. He called upon all riders to stop abusing drugs in order to proper in their bodaboda business.
“Alcohol is bad for anyone doing any business. It is risky to drive while drunk. I urge any customer who notices any rider ferrying him or her while drunk to report such riders to the police for immediate action to be taken,” he stated.
He concluded by stating that passengers also have powers to slow down any reckless rider or driver and bodaboda operators in the slums of Kibera more so from Laini Saba stage should maintain discipline for the unity of the bodaboda operators to continue otherwise doing against the set traffic laws is an offence.
