Irate bodaboda operators in Thika town on Monday rode to Mackenzie Administration police camp along the Thika-Kenol road and fished out a police officer whom they accused of being part of a gang that has been terrorising area residents.
The more than 150 bodaboda operators forcefully plucked the officer from his office and took him to Thika police station, where they handed him to the area Criminal Investigating Officers accusing him of being part of a gang, which has in the last two months stolen 6 motorbikes from members of their association.
Tension was high at the Thika police station as armed Administration police officers patrolled the compound, giving the impression that they were protecting their counter-part from being mistreated by the investigating officers.
The operators, who explained how one of their colleagues was robbed of his motorbike and a mobile phone in the presence of police officers, with the phone allegedly tracked and found in possession of one of the officers.
The 2TKY Association Chairman Joseph Mwangi told journalists that the story was very similar with 5 other cases that had happened a few weeks ago, saying they needed to act in order to put an end to the cases.
The Investigating officers confirmed that they were recording statements from the Administration police officer.
Following the incident, Thika sub-county Administration Police Superintendent Samuel Ombonya said that investigations are already underway to determine the allegations.
He added that if found guilty, the officer will be prosecuted according to the law.
