Uasin Gishu County bodaboda operators have called for increased police surveillance as cases of insecurity associated with the business increase.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, the North Rift Taxis and Bodaboda Association chairman Richard Mukobero said the cases of insecurity have skyrocketed claiming many lives.
"As an association, we fell our security is at risk since we are really being butchered like animals while undertaking our duties and no one seems to be bothered," he said.
He said in the month of November, they have lost four bodaboda operators who were killed by gangsters who approached them purporting to be customers.
"Four smartly-dressed people come in the name of customers and after they were carried, they produce guns and kill the bodada operators stealing everything from them," he said.
He said despite the ban on bodaboda operations beyond 11pm, cases of insecurity have increased.
"I urge the Uasin Gishu County government in conjunction with the county commissioner to beef up security to prevent the loss of more lives since this is our job and we need protection," he added.
