Kisii bodaboda operators of Mwembe are counting losses as the rainy season sets in.
They are afraid that most of their customers are opting for taxis and matatus at the expense of their services.
“Business is now sore since the onset of the rains. Despite being swift and efficient most people are trying to escape the cold associated with bodaboda,” said Mike.
They are afraid that if the trend will go on for some more time they will lose their source of income.
“I can’t board a bodaboda with this current weather. It exposes one to cold which makes it easy to suffer from communicable diseases such as common cold,” said Mary Tisa.
The operators also raised concerns of the shed that they urgently needed to shelter them during cold seasons like the one they are now experiencing.
“We are exposed to the adverse weather which is raining. We are urging the county government to come in and build a shade for us,” said Joel Oloo.
Peter Ombicha an economic expert says the operators ought to save during ‘good days’ to help them survive in hard times.
He adds that if the same continues it may lead to deviant behavior where the operators may opt for illegal means to sustain their source of income.
