Bodaboda operators in Garissa County on Tuesday held a silent protest against local police citing harassment.
The riders who opted to sit outside the Ukulima police station in Garissa town said they have for long remained silent and that time had come to have their grievances reach the camp's boss whose officers have allegedly been frustrating them in their routine businesses.
Led by the operators' chair Aden Ibrahim, the bodaboda operators cited extortion as their main issue in the silent demonstration.
"These officers have been demanding cash from us even when we have never committed an offense. If we don't give them something they confiscate our keys until we pay them. We are tired of these," stated Aden.
Area commander, Njoroge Vincent later addressed them and firmly promised to urgently look into the matter in a bid to find a long lasting solution on the matter.
This is not the first protest that the riders are conducting against the local law enforcers. In early this year, the youths staged another protest demanding the arrest of their own who had been allegedly arrested for failing to bribe the officers as requested after flouting traffic rules.
