Thika sub-county Traffic Police Base Commander Benjamin Kiprono has lauded Bodaboda operators in the area following the reduced accidents caused by them in the sub-county.
Kiprono said that the training offered to them by the Pettans Driving school and funded by the area lawmaker Alice Ng’ang’a has yielded a lot as the number of accidents that were earlier reported in large numbers had reduced.
He said that the operators have gained experience and they can now showcase their driving skills saying that they are licensed riders and are aware of the traffic rules and regulations.
“Even while on the highway now you can see that they are trained drivers and people who are aware of the traffic rules and regulations. The training has helped much in reducing accidents along Thika road and in other areas in the area,” said Kiprono.
He added that he has noted with a lot of concern the emergence of untrained ‘Tuktuk’ drivers who are alleged to be causing traffic congestion in the town centre saying that they will take action on anyone who will be caught driving without a license.
Thika town MP had taken the responsibility of training Bodaboda operators in the area and ensuring that they get their licenses to enhance their safety and that of tother road users.
The operators were further given Sh5,000 by MP Ng’ang’a to support their activities and documentations which the traffic boss said has boosted and given them a chance to earn a better standard of living rather than idling and involving themselves in drugs abuse and criminal activities.
