Bodaboda riders from Kanyoni, Gatundu North constituency have threatened to turn the Gituamba- Kanyoni road into a shamba by planting bananas if something is not done about it.
While protesting on Friday, the riders demanded that the county government repairs the road before they declare it impassable for any kind of vehicle.
“We will start planting bananas here without fearing anyone. We are here with our bodabodas but we cannot go anywhere because of this bad road,” said Joshua Waweru, a bodaboda rider.
“Very soon, all these people you are seeing here will abandon these job and go back home and you can bet what they will be doing, stealing. The government must come and make this road for us because we do not want to engage in illegal activities. The road is full of potholes,” said James Wandiga, another rider.
The cyclists have added that the situation worsens when it rains making the road a nightmare.
Jamleck Muchemi said, “The rain is about to start. I do not know where our help will come from because we have to take these motorbikes home as it will be futile to try and use them on this road.”
They now say they have lost most of their customers since they fear being ferried by motorbikes which are prone to accidents. Some of the riders and their customers have allegedly broken their hands on the bad road.
