Thika township ward has set aside Sh200,000 to train bodaboda operators, area Member of County Assembly Kentam Mwangi has said.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the MCA said that the funds will see cyclists trained, a move he said will curb rising cases of accidents.
He stated that most cylcists have no or little skills saying their is need for the county to set aside enough funds to sponsor their training.
“We have set aside funds that will oversee training of 200 boda boda and tuktuk operators from Thika township,” he said.
The MCA said that cyclists will be further trained on first aid measures and other road security matters.
Mwangi at the same time asked boda boda operators to form groups so that they can access development funds being offered by the government.
He said that such funds will help them boost their business and provide them chance to venture into other business.
Mwangi said that he is committed to ensure the living standards of the people are boosted.
“I am working closely with the government to ensure we are not left out in terms of development,” he said.
The MCA called on residents to engage in development activities saying that the constitution has given the power to question their leaders.
He said that they have right to question and recall leaders who fail to meet their development expectations.
