Bodaboda riders in Kibera have been urged to form and register in groups like Saccos in a bid to identify criminals among them.
Concerns have been raised over the increasing number of crime cases being reported by the public, accusing some bodaboda operators for conducting crimes or colluding with criminals especially at night.
Kilimani OCPD Peter Kattam is now calling upon all the bodaboda operators to form registered groups which will ensure that they are all known to the authorities and also among themselves.
"Most motorcycle riders are good but some take advantage situations to carry out crime. Bodaboda riders should, therefore, form groups so that they can be able to identify who among them is a criminal. At the moment, you will realise that they operate randomly with minimal information known about each of them," said Kattam in his office on Friday.
Kattam reiterated his earlier directive to all bodaboda riders against operating at night.
"We still discourage night operation of motorcycles because that is the time that criminals take the advantage of situations to terrorise the public. The fact that motorcycles are flexible, it is easy for them to escape before being arrested by the police," he said
He has also urged the public to be wary of the motorcycles they aboard.
"The public should be careful whenever they use bodaboda especially during odd hours of the night lest they be robbed," he added.
