A group of bodaboda operators from Borabu Constituency have vowed to support the local administration and the police in fighting crime in the region.
This comes after area residents accused the operators of propelling the crimes by harbouring the criminals who have been antagonising area residents.
Led by Human Rights Activist Mr Benford Nyachwaya of Mars Group on Thursday, they challenged their colleagues to join the campaign and restore the status of improved security the region used to enjoy.
“I am happy that my good friends from the bodaboda sector have promised to help fight crime in this region. The security level has diminished in this region with a series of unwarranted cases being reported daily. We had intelligence that some of the operators are directly involved but it is important that they have joined us in curbing the vice,” he said.
According to Nyanchwaya, the operators will be working in shifts to guard regions which have been reported to be dangerous besides giving local administrators daily briefs.
“Borabu is big but their number is not that small. We have around 50 of them and we have agreed that they will be guarding the hotbeds of crime besides reporting to the administration on a daily basis,” he added.
The operators vowed to fight crime and warned criminals who have been engaging in robbery with violence.
“We have been accused falsely but we are ready to demonstrate by example. Those who are participating in such acts must be held accountable and our team is ready to deliver,” said Jackson Ondieki, a bodaboda operator.
