The protesting bodaboda operators in Kisumu town, October 5, 2017. [Photo|County Government of Kisumu]Transport operations in Kisumu town were disrupted, after bodaboda operators dressed in t-shirts with "Governor Jack Ranguma" branded t-shirts and reflector jackets carrying twigs and placards camped at Prosperity House, which houses governor's offices, for the better part of this afternoon. The operators expressed dissatisfaction with the County's Finance Bill 2017, which was passed by County Assembly of Kisumu last week, to see them start paying levies. They however failed to present petition to the Deputy Governor Dr Ochieng Owili, a move that saw some residents disperse them, on grounds that they had been sent by past county government leadership, to interfere with the current government's business. The operators had threatened to stage protests and present their grievances to the county government, but the Deputy Governor had pleaded with them to put off their plans. In a letter, Dr Owili had assured the bodaboda operators that their grievances will be presented to Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o, who is out of the country, for consideration before he ascents to the bill. The operators are opposed to being taxed by the county government.
