Road users and traders at Madaraka Market in Makongeni have complained of what they term as reckless parking and blocking of the road leading to the market by bodaboda riders.
According to Madaraka Market Chairperson Ephantus Ngari, the riders who park near the market gate have no regards to anyone and efforts to bring sanity in the market road is always meted with opposition.
"They don't care at all even when parking at the middle of the road to pick up customers. We have always asked them to give some space to other road users especially the traders coming in with heavy loads to no avail," Ngari said on Tuesday.
Ngari is now calling the Kiambu County Government to allocate the operators a different area in order to decongest the narrow market road connected to Garissa Highway. However, the operators refute the allegations saying they only operate in the designated area.
"If the had any complaints, they could have alerted the Makongeni Police Station officers who are just here," said Kevin Njoroge, an operator.
Samuel Wanjau, another rider says that the congestions only happens in the evening during rush hour.
"That is the situation even on other roads in the area," said Wanjau.
