Bobaboda cyclists in Kisumu city are mulling the idea of paying taxes to the county government after a trip to Kigali, Rwanda.
Kisumu Central constituency bodaboda chairman John Odire said they have learnt a lot from the trip and they will start implementing some of the lessons learnt.
Top of their priority is paying taxes to the county to help in raising the revenue base for the city.
Speaking in Kisumu on Monday, Odire said that in Kigali, cyclists are paying taxes in an organized way and noted that they wished the same is applied here.
“The cyclists in that country are paying taxes through societies they have formed and are run efficiently,” he said.
The last time the county government tried to impose taxes on bodaboda cyclists, there was chaos and up to now they are just operating freely.
Odire said they will partner with the county government to ensure that every bodaboda cyclists is registered in a society group.
“If our cyclists are properly managed then paying taxes will not be an issue to us,” he said.
He announced that they will help the county government to implement some of the laws and policies that will streamline the sector.
