There is need for bodaboda operators to restore order and sanity in roads in order to minimise road carnage, a senior traffic police officer has said.
Kiambu Traffic Police boss Gabriel Mulei said that the motorcycle riders should upgrade their skills in the expanding industry.
Speaking on Sunday at Madaraka gardens in Kiambu during a free training course for bodaboda operators, Mulei said motorcyclists must obey traffic rules in an effort to alleviate the deaths, injuries and social-economic damages arising from the toll of accidents being witnessed on the county’s roads.
“There is need for the bodaboda operators to obey and respect the traffic rules and public safety,” said Mulei.
Mulei further supported section 42 of the traffic laws that requires physical and health fitness examination to drivers and riders, as it is necessary for the safety of the public.
“This requirement will protect our lives and restore order on our roads,” added Mulei.
Kiambu police boss Sebastian Lekupe said that the police force is working with the operators to enhance road safety, and warned a section of youth who are threatening new entrants in the industry with extortion that they will be dealt with by the law.
The one-day training brought together over100 bodaboda operators who received free session on how to obey traffic laws.
