Boda boda operators from Mavoko Sub County have been told to be law compliant so as to avoid unnecessary arrests by the police.
The call was made by the Athi River boda boda operators' association’s chairman Isaiah Wambua who said a handful of the operators were indisciplined and unruly.
“Generally, majority of the youth in the boda boda industry are good only with a handful of them being indisciplined and unruly,” said Wambua.
According to Mr Wambua, the few were operating the business under influence of hard drugs and substance abuse including alcohol.
Wambua said such operators apart from harassing their innocent clients, were fond of flouting traffic rules and regulations.
He said they engage in over speeding, risky overtaking and do not give way to pedestrians among other road users.
Wambua said the operators were always in conflict with matatu operators plying on routes in the region who they believe look down upon them.
He said majority of those operators ride on road unworthy motorbikes with some missing licenses while themselves lack protective wears such as helmets and reflector jackets.
The chairman accused the indisciplined operators of effecting closure of Mombasa Highway recently after police officers ceased some of their motorbikes.
