At least 11bodies have lied unclaimed for more than a year at Kisii Teaching and Referral morgue.
Public Health officer Thomas Makworo said space at the facility has been squeezed thin owing to the congestion."We have been urging the would be family members for months now to come forward and collect them for burial but in vain, " said Makworo to the press.
He said many of the bodies were brought in from various police stations across the region among them Ramasha, Rioma ,Ogembo among others. The main referral hospital has been operating without a cemetery for six years after the one it had was grabbed.
Mid last year, the National Land Commission boss Dr Mohammed Swazuri had promised to have all pieces of land grabbed in the County repossessed during his visit. Also grabbed is land belonging to the electoral agency IEBC, fire station, National Intelligence Service and Kisii Central Police Station.
Mr Makworo said they may be forced to dispose off the bodies if no body comes to claim.
