The body of a man who disappeared three months ago from Kerwa, Kikuyu sub-county was found in a 58-foot borehole early Wednesday.
According to the area chief Samuel Kang’ethe, the man identified as Kinyanjui Njoroge had a mental problem when he went missing.
“We made announcements on local radio stations but it bore no fruit. The man was not in the right state of mind,” said Kang’ethe.
The chief has asked residents living with such people to keep a close eye on them to avoid such instances. The body which was totally decomposed was found after residents noted a strong odour coming from the well.
“The owner had dug the well to provide him with water but later abandoned it,” said Michael Gatheca, a neighbour.
Following this, Kang’ethe has now ordered that all wells that are not in use to be filled up.
“To ensure that such incidences do not occur in future, I have asked residents to fill all the idle wells and fence the ones in use,” added Kang’ethe.
