The body of a middle-aged man who drowned on Monday last week in River Athi in Kalandini area, Wamunyu sub-county in Machakos county has been retrieved.
The man identified as Peter Mweu drowned on Monday as he headed home drunk when he tried to cross the river to Yatta.
The residents together with the police had spent days searching for the body of the deceased since he drowned without success.
The body was seen floating in the river in Kanyama area by residents who were watering their vegetables on Friday evening.
Confirming the incident, Wamunyu youth leader Shadrack Musili faulted the police for delaying to come and pick the body after they were notified.
"The police took seven hours before they came to pick the body," said Musili.
The police took the body of the deceased to Machakos level four mortuary for postmortem.
