The body said to be that of Public Works Permanent Secretary Mariam El Maawy’s nephew has been recovered after Thursday’s Al-Shabaab attack in Lamu.
The terrorists waylaid the vehicle that was transporting the PS and her nephew at Milihoi along the busy Lamu-Mpeketoni highway at about 3pm and drove it to Boni forest.The PS’s nephew, according to The Star, has been identified as 21-year-old Arif Kassim.The late is said to have gone missing after the ambush.“We are making burial arrangements at Arif’s home in Mokowe,” a source was quoted by the daily as saying on Friday.Reports also indicate two more bodies believed to be those of police officers have been recovered.They are believed to be those of KDF soldiers who rescued the PS.Authorities in the county including Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri and Linda Boni operation director James Seriani declined to comment about Arif’s body recovery.The bodies were taken to the Mpeketoni sub county hospital mortuary in Lamu West.Three other bodies were recovered in the expansive Boni forest which Al-Shabaab militants have turned into a training ground.
