Police in Mombasa are investigating an incident in which a university student is said to have hanged herself after she was abandoned by her lover.
Confirming the incident, Kisauni deputy OCPD Walter Abondo said the 23-year-old lady, identified as Dorris Kagendo was a student at Jomo Kenyatta University Taita Taveta campus.The OCPD said the student was accompanied by an identified man when they checked in at a guest house in Kisimani, Kisauni on Friday evening.Abondo said the two spent Friday night at Las Vegas guest house, but the man abandoned the lady who later returned to the guest house on Sunday morning.“The body was found dangling in the room after she hanged herself. She did not leave any notes behind to explain what might have led her to take such actions,” said Abondo.“However, a text message we found in her mobile phone indicated she was very worried about her health and we suspected that could be the main reason why she hanged herself,” she added.The police boss said they have launched a manhunt for the man, whom they hope will aid in investigations.The body was taken to the Coast General Hospital morgue.
