The body of a man who drowned in Muthithu River in Kaewa location Masinga Sub-County was retrieved this morning after a four day search.

Confirming the unfortunate incident, Kaewa Location Chief Titus Mbuva said that the man who is a resident of Muthithu village drowned on Friday evening as he was coming from Ithaeni market to his home.

“I was alerted by residents who witnessed the incident and even tried rescuing him but the water was overflowing in the river and their efforts were fruitless so he drowned,” said Mbuva.

The chief however stated that together with the residents they launched a search immediately but that they had been unable to find him until this morning after a night of searching by trained swimmers.

The trained swimmers had been searching together with police officers from Kaewa police post.

“We have been searching for the body since Friday. We found the body two kilometres from where the man drowned. He had been stuck on a big root in the River,” he added.

Mbuva thanked the residents stating for their relentless help throughout the exercise. He also cautioned the residents against trying to cross the River to the other side as some areas were deep and though the water seemed calm it flowed at a high speed.

He urged them to instead use the bridge to cross the River.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Matuu nursing home mortuary by Kaewa police officers.
