A decomposing body of a man in his early 30's was on Wednesday retrieved from River Athi by Athi River Police officers.
The unidentified body was spotted by Jam City Slum residents floating on the waters few meters from the Jam City's foot bridge in Athi River.
Mavoko location Chief Nzau Komo said the residents then informed the Athi River Police Station who responded quickly by sending officers to the scene to retrieve it.
Komo said that the body had no notable injuries hence suspected the man had drowned in the waters further from where the body was retrieved, since there was no sign of him being beaten and thrown into the river adding that the residents were not able to identify the body thereby suspecting the man was not from the area.
The body was moved to the Nairobi's City Mortuary as the Chief called on those whose person had gone missing to report to any nearby Police Station.
He urged members of the public to be more careful while using the foot bridge since it was unprotected, the metal bars along its sides have all been vandalised posing security risks to users.
The officer cautioned those who continue vandalising the bridge to sell the metals to scrape metal dealers and called on the public to report suspects to the police.
