Boda Boda operators in Bogiakumu ward, Kisii County have been urged to join Sacco’s as the perfect way to improve their lively hood and also as a form of raising the economic status in the area.
Addressing the operators at Bogiakumu shopping center, area MCA Benard Bundi said saccos will help youths in improving their working conditions, and hence empowering their livelihoods.
He said he is much aware that the youth in the sector are facing diverse challenges while working individually, for instance clearing medical bills and frequent arrests by police officers, hence Saccos would be of help to them.
He also added that there is a group in another county with 100 members, which has rolled out a plan to register its members with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to ensure that health standards of the members are monitored.
Bundi assured them that the county government aims at providing education to Boda boda operators on save driving practices, undertaking all players in the sector through driving school, as well as acquiring license and insurance in a bid to avoid frequent accidents.
He said the county government will launch a programme which will sensitize the youth on the importance of joining Saccos, best saving practices and engaging in micro-finance business which will in turn make their operations successful.
